I can’t help it. I chuckle every time I see the name of this dress. My husband is an
avid voracious reader, and prides himself on having a large vocabulary, including how to pronounce these big words. So when I told him that this was the Mendocino Sundress, he corrected me, saying it was the Men-dah-cino Sundress. I have many friends in California, so I went straight to the experts. I was (for once!) correct – it’s Men-doh-see-no. Minor technicality, yes, but still an exciting victory nonetheless. Anyway, onto the dress…
I have had a long time fondness for pillowcase dresses. They are so simple, sweet and comfortable. This fabric was purchased at Britex Fabrics in San Francisco about 2 years ago. They have a really great eyelet section. What’s particularly convenient about using most eyelets is that the front bottom hem is already completed for you. Yay for time savers. (more…)
Or at least one of many to come, as I love the feel of voile. Such a luxurious hand, and a great drape make this one of my all time favorite fabrics. This pattern came together pretty quickly from start to finish. This is the Blossoms & Bloomers pattern from Favorite Things. This is supposed to be a reversible dress, but I just wanted to focus on the voile, and so I only used a kona solid as the lining. I’m really loving the buttons, too, which I purchased at Britex fabrics (I think!) a few years ago.
And so I, too, write. I’m excited to share all the sweet things in my life here. Of course, the sweetest being my daughter, Elise, and my husband, Matt. I’m a craft lover, and enjoy sewing, letterpress, and baking. I find so much inspiration from those out there, documenting from their humble abode – reminding me that anything is possible with enough practice and self love. Thanks for visiting!
